About Us - Falls Farm & Garden Equipment Co. Inc.

A Brief History of Falls Farm & Garden Equipment Company

“Only in America can a 20-year-old kid with $3000 and a pick-up truck build a successful business.” That is how Tim Havens, Sr. describes his humble beginnings. It is also a glimpse into his patriotic spirit.

On December 1, 1982, Tim Havens launched Falls Farm & Garden Equipment Co., Inc.

The company’s first location was a rented facility on Burgoyne Avenue in Hudson Falls. The business opened with the Allis Chalmers line of equipment. Mr. Havens remembers his stock consisting of a farm tractor, two compact tractors, thirteen snowblowers, and a few Jonsered chainsaws. At the start, Tim was sales, parts and service. He opened his business with three weeks of school left at ACC. He recalls, “When it was time for class, I’d shut down to go to college.” A year after opening in 1982, John Deere equipment was added.

By 1985, the business had outgrown the building on Burgoyne Avenue. A 1200-square foot addition was erected, but by 1987, they were again busting at the seams. It was evident that the company needed to move. After a lot of sweat equity, in 1988, Falls Farm & Garden Equipment Co. relocated to its current location at 1115 Dix Avenue in Hudson Falls. Mr. Havens has always invested back into this business to provide the best atmosphere for his customers. Since moving to Dix Avenue, additional property has been purchased to display inventory, the showroom has been recently renovated and the footprint of the facility has increased twice.

With the help of a core group of exceptional employees, the company will celebrate its 33rd year in business in 2015, and has become “The Power Equipment Center of the North Country.”

The company has continued to add brands and product lines ever since to meet the needs of their customers. The business is a mix of selling new and used equipment, doing service and repairs, selling replacement parts and equipment rentals. In the local communities, Falls Farm & Garden Equipment and John Deere Company are synonymous.

Mr. Havens believes in small business. He appreciates his dedicated employees and loyal customers. Tim states, “To our customers and friends who have chosen to do business with us, from buying a $2 spark plug to a $90,000 farm tractor, each and every customer has and will continue to be important to us.”
